More Toulouse Lautrec Resaerch

-French painter, printmaker, draftsman, illustrator.

-born in Albi, Tarn France

-Toulouse’s family feeling the effects of inbreeding within past generations

-His disability was linked to fractured thigh bones at 14 which never healed properly causing disorders such as osteoporosis 

-physically noble to participate in normal activities and therefore turned to art. 

-Lautrec created 737 canvases, 275 watercolours, 363 prints and posters and 5,084 drawings

-Lautrec designed 30 posters and all lithograph

-Ironically intended for short term usage they ended up being historical pieces.

-These influenced the pop art movement as well as artists such as Andy Warhol 

-1891he was commissioned to create a poster for the moulin rouge and captured the venue star cancan dancer ‘La Goulue’

-In the piece you can see Toulouse uses composition, with the star placed centre surrounded by unprinted paper to create a spotlight effect.
